Babel Workshop - Anita Murphy

We are pleased to invite artists/performers/makers from Cambridge and beyond to an open access workshop at our UK home venue – Cambridge Junction.

NIE Co-director Alex Byrne will lead a workshop introducing New International Encounter’s approach to tragic / comic / magical / musical / devised theatre.

NIE works with an established ensemble, we have worked with some artist for nearly 20 years! For each project we like to work with a mixture of old friends and collaborators and artists who are new to the company.

This session will be on Tuesday 6th May ’25, running 7.30pm – 9pm.

We love to work with Actors / Actor Musicians / Actor Puppeteers / Musicians who:

  • *Are from a variety of places / countries / traditions
  • *Speak different languages
  • *Play music
  • *Are interested in devising and being part of making our work
  • *Are intelligent and inspiring
  • *Are interested in making work for children and families
  • *Are great fun to work with and are playful

We are particularly interested meet more artists from diverse backgrounds.

We will work with improvisation, play and the connection of live music with performance.  Artists who play will be invited to bring their instrument.

Places are free – You can book your spot here.

Such a playful, interesting and inspiring afternoon. The use of GMFs, with all the different add ons I found fascinating, and your delivery of the class a joy.

– James, Previous workshop participant (Bristol ’24)
