250 stories, 25 shows, 4 hotels & 1 van – We have had a fantastic tour around Fenland

In the last month our Legends of the Fen team have pitched our Mongolian Yurt in school playgrounds, fields, and gardens in March, Ramsey, Wisbech & Cambridge, UK.

We re-visited the schools that hosted our creative writing workshops in January and performed the show to the children who had been the story writers.

It was fantastic to meet all the young authors and give them and their teachers copies of the newly published anthology “Legends of The Fen” with illustrations by the children and design by Tonka Uzu.

“(Writing a story for the show) made me feel free to express my ideas and creativity and be listened to”

“It was nice to write a story for actors”

Year 5 pupils

We were especially proud to be part of Wisbech Reads – a Year 5 literacy festival organised by 20Twenty Productions. We are grateful to Katherine and Ellie for all the smooth running of the event and inviting the members of the Young Fenland Cultural Consortium to see the show. Thought this event we performed to every year 5 pupil from the 17 schools in the Wisbech Schools partnership.

Along with all these keen young historians, we were lucky enough to perform to other local Legends of the Fen:

 * Louise Haselgrove and Robert Bell from Wisbech & Fenland Museum

(The show starred genuine Fenland artifacts loaned to us from the Museum)

 * Diane – “I am a direct descendant of Turkey Smart!”

(William “Turkey” Smart [c. 1830–1919] was a champion speed skater who would compete

on the frozen Fenland waterways and featured in the show)

* Val Fendley – The Mayor of Ramsey

“How lucky we feel that Ramsey Children had the opportunity to participate in such an amazing arts project.”

* Make Davey – Leader of Cambridge City Council & Hilary Cox-Condron (Artist on the project)

“Great to see local cultural history engaging & engrossing children in this way”.

* Sarah Edwards and Johanne Clifton from Elliot Foundation Academies Trust

“It was amazing, and the cast well deserved a standing ovation”

And we have had some fantastic feedback from audiences of all ages:

“I would watch it a hundred times if I could”

“Thank you for this amazing idea! I hope to see more in the future”

“Loved the way the show was built around real historic artifacts”

“Ingenious, exciting, inspirational”
