Hansel & Gretel – Meet the Creative Team!

For this Christmas’ run of Hansel & Gretel we once again had an amazing Designer and Production team to help create this magical show. We are delighted to be working with old friends, alongside some new faces, fantastically supported by the Cambridge Junction Tech Team.

Alex Byrne – Director

Alex is the Co-Artistic Director of New International Encounter, the company that he founded in 2001. Based at Cambridge Junction, NIE produces national and international touring theatre for children, families and young people.  Alex’s work for NIE has been invited to appear at young audience festivals all over the world and won prizes at numerous international festivals.

 

Sam Turton – Assistant Director

Sam is a director and producer from Bedford, and has worked with an NiE on multiple shows (Beauty and the Beast and Snow White). He is currently artistic director of Nova theatre making work for young people. Sam is excited to be back working with NiE on Hansel & Gretel.

 

Elliot Davis – Musical Director & Composer 

Elliot has worked with nie since 2010 as composer and music director for their first production of Hansel and Gretal, around the world in 80 Days and Beauty and the Beast which concluded a successful run around the UK at the New Victory Theatre in New York.

 

Trui Malten – Lighting Designer

Lights theatre, opera, dance and performance pieces. For NIE: Grand Soft Day, Snow Queen, Snow White, I will be Everything, Beauty and the Beast. Trui lit a lot of opera lately: Il Matrimonio Segreto; Queen of Spades; Little Black Cat; Cunning Little VixenBlue Beard’s Castle; Tamerlano; Carmen. Stefanie Mueller – Gretel & Production Designer

Born in Switzerland, Stefanie studied at the International Theatre School Jaques Lecoq in Paris. She was Artistic Associate of Hoipolloi Theatre for 25 years working as an actress, director & set-designer. TV includes: The Crown;  War of the Worlds 2, Killing Eve, and Homeland. Recent theatre work includes: The Snow Queen & Snow White with NIE; Factory of the Future, We Know Not What We May Be and Love Letters with Metis Arts; Unconditional with ThisEgg. Ash Day – Production Manager

Ash has been working professionally since the early 2000’s as a touring session musician, lighting designer and production manager for rock, theatre and dance shows, working for artists such as Rock the Ballet, The Manfreds and Joan Armatrading.  He has been a production manager for NIE since 2018, working on Snow White (2018), Snow Queen (2021) and Hansel & Gretel (2023) amongst others.

 

Nadja Zaremba-Byrne – Design Assistant

Nadja Zaremba-Byrne graduated from Central Saint Martins with a BA in Fine Art. This is her second professional venture working as a Design Assistant. She is looking to expand upon that and get an MA in Production Design in the near future.
