Ruth Carter-Moore: The first 6 days…
A big Hello from Day 6 of being NIE’s new Producer!
In the last couple of weeks, I have revelled in family and friends asking ‘How’s the new job?’, as it allows me to wax lyrical about how much I am enjoying myself here at NIE.
With Lisa & Michael both on leave, I have had a quiet few days this week to settle in on my own. Not to say there wasn’t plenty to do –
My first day happened to coincide with a meeting of our board, so I was able to join virtually and introduce myself. It was fantastic to meet everyone on Day 1, and always nice to see some unexpected familiar faces on screen.
The rest of my time has been spent getting my head around the projects NIE is currently working on – A tour of London schools, the Christmas show, and travel to Belgium, Ireland and New York! As well as earwigging on meetings about potential future collaborations in other parts of the world!
I have spent a comfy morning watching videos of our previous and current shows – getting fully immersed in the work. And unpacking the costumes for the Christmas Show as parcels have been arriving daily in a myriad of shapes and sizes. Not to mention more practical things like logging onto computers, emails, and having to ask more than once how the online calendar works!
Yesterday I was honoured to spend a day in the office with the most important member of the team – Alex’s dog Misha! (Who was very brave coming in for the first time ever to keep me company). Plus, a fantastic chat about the history and background of the company.
I’m trying to enjoy the slight lull, as after the Bank Holiday the team will be back to full force, and it will be all go from there! Can’t wait.
